Those of you who loved your F5’s are going to cry when you see this relic.
This beast is literally a Nikon F5 with a digital back shoved up its butt. Just the thought of picking this thing up and using it now makes my forearms burn, but back in 2002 when I first got this bastard child of R2D2 this thing was a vast improvement from the huge block of dead wood I’d been bashing against my skull up until that point; a Kodak DCS460. The 460 was an N90s with an even larger digital back shoved up its butt, only it had no preview screen, only two buttons on the back; Delete and SCSI ID, and it took a full 20 seconds to write a single image to the memory card. Let me say that again, so that you understand the ramifications of this limitation... IT TOOK A FULL 20 SECONDS TO WRITE A SINGLE IMAGE TO THE MEMORY CARD. That’s a blazing fast three images per minute for those of you doing the math.
Coming from that the 760 was a huge step up. The picture quality was light years better, there was a preview screen, and it took only a few seconds to save an image to the disc. Looking back I wish my company had bought a Nikon D1X instead, but the Kodak did its job without complaint and I’ve since moved on to better things. One thing about camera bodies... you don’t have to live with them for very long anymore.
